Creating Cosy Scandi Interiors with Layered
Swedish interior brand Layered is one of the latest design brands to join Pad, adding a sublime collection of cosy rugs and home furnishings in a variety of styles, sizes and budget. The quality of Layered’s rugs are matched by the beauty of the brand. Grown organically by founder and creative director Marin Glemme's personal passion for the humble rug, and built upon high environmental and ethical standards, Layered's rugs are irresistible on many levels.
Layered was born out of Marin’s quest to create the perfect rug, who first went through the processes of design before travelling to India where her dream was woven into reality. Fortunately for us, her dedication has meant that rug perfection can now be found with a click of a button, no trip to India necessary (although that would be nice!).
As the cold and dark of winter draws in, what could be a better investment than a rug that will bring a chic sort of cosiness into your home. The taupe grey Byzantine wool rug utilises the iconic and intriguing geometric patterns of the Byzantine Empire to create a rug that is both classical and contemporary.
And Layered’s geometric collection also includes the bold Illusion rug, featuring tile like patterns in black, grey, blue or cardamom colour blocks. Both of these geometric rug designs ooze the sophisticated stylishness typical of Scandi Noir design, yet the lush handwoven wool pile still invites you to bury your toes in comfort.
For those who seek outright unadulterated comfort, Layered’s range of shaggy rugs will allow you to, not just bury your toes, but fully engulf your feet! The deep wool is handwoven using a 2000-year-old production method from Greece. Each rug is placed under the swirling streams of a natural waterfall to create a uniquely soft texture, and, believe us, your feet will know all about it! This commitment to traditional production methods in the interest of maintaining comfort and quality is typical of Layered’s ethos, selecting partners who support and preserve traditional local methods of craftsmanship.
If it’s an eco credentials box you are looking to tick the more tightly woven thick pile Falling Water rug is definitely worth a look. Available in several complimenting neutral tones inspired by the minimalist colour scheme and timeless expression of Frank Lloyd Wright’s iconic Fallingwater House. And surprisingly, given their cosy shagginess, they are made of 100% recycled PET which has a semi-shine and is durable and easy to care for. Several boxes ticked in one!!
Next up on our cosy Scandi rug journey is a long pile shaggy number but with a little more design - the Modern Oriental. Inspired by the Moroccan rug culture, which remains very much in vogue, but with a modern construction being produced in 100% soft, recycled wool. Each rug has been embroidered with their own, unique symbols that together have their own story to tell, such as love, strength or wisdom. In various shades of cream with blue, rose and natural pattern tones, the latest launch being the Saffron and Black colour way below which is fabulously chic with a relaxed mid-century inspired interior.
For something a little more glamorous we absolutely love the tiger stripe inspired Shera rug, in tonal greys or a dreamy rose pink. Or the muted grey spotted Cheetah rug is equally glam. Each piece is hand tufted in a soft and slightly shiny 100% viscose construction creating a luxury feel to any space.
With so many styles, materials and colours to choose from at such accessible prices starting at £595 (yes really!!) and so many gorgeous in room inspirations, Layered really does know how to create the cosiest and most glamorous of Scandi interiors.
